Varsity Basketball v. Cardigan Mountain School
On Saturday the Brookies welcomed our rivals, Cardigan Mountain School, to campus for a full slate of basketball games. The three lower teams having already won, the stage was set for an epic varsity basketball showdown. Eaglebrook came out quickly in the first half and effectively controlled the tempo for the majority of the half. Opening leads as big as 10 points, the Eagles fended off run after Cardigan run. The Cougars were able to make to final push during the waning moments of the half, and closed first half play on a buzzer-beating three-pointer to make cut the lead to two points. During the second half of play, Eaglebrook continued to control the pace. Four minutes in it looked like the Brookies were going to open things up, as the took a 10 point lead on a Dylan Royal ’19 three-pointer. Much to Cardigan’s credit, the Cougars battled back and took a one-point lead with less than six minutes to play. The Brookies buckled down during he closing moments, getting a number of defensive stops, and were finally able to seal the victory after a free throw by Anthoney Seoage ’21 and a tipped ball on the ensuing inbounds play by Xan Morris ’19. Up next for the Eagles is a trip to Suffield Academy for the Rising Stars Tournament on Sunday.
