The JV Football closed out its season with a game against Greenfield. On a very cold and damp day, the Eagles struggled to develop any consistency offensively. The weather conditions severely hampered our ability to throw the ball, and our ground game never got on track. After picking up a nice first down on a QB bootleg on the opening drive, the Eagles offense ground to a halt, eventually throwing an interception deep in Greenfield territory. The defense came out fired up, holding the Green Wave offense to minimal yards on their first three plays from scrimmage. On fourth and long, Greenfield got to the edge, and ran for a big first down. Three pays later they did it again, this time rumbling and tumbling 48 yards for a touchdown. Eaglebrook held on the conversion, giving Greenfield a slight 6-0 lead. Much like our last game against Frontier, the Eagles quickly turned the ball over on downs, giving Greenfield excellent field position. The defense continued to hold strong, seemingly forcing the Green Wave to punt. Trickery ensued, and Greenfield converted a long pass off of their fake punt, giving them a 12-0 lead. A little deflated, the boys from the Brook were unable to move the ball again, eventually turning the ball over on downs. Greenfield took advantage of the opportunity, and eventually drove into the end zone, giving them an 18-0 lead at halftime.
After the half, things looked up for the Brookies. With a goal of winning this half, the boys took the field fired up. Our defense quickly forced a turnover, and the team was able to sustain their longest drive of the afternoon to that point. Unfortunately we were unable to convert a close 4th down run, but the boys were starting to gain some confidence. Greenfield again sputtered on offense, eventually punting the ball for the first time in the game. The Eagles again began moving the ball well and were able to drive the ball deep into Green Wave territory. Greenfield took over on their on 19, and yet again the defense came up big, quickly forcing a punt. With just over tow minutes to go in the game Eaglebrook was determined to find the end zone. After a number a long runs, Eaglebrook stalled at the 12-yard line. Three plays in a row were snuffed out by the tenacious Greenfield defense, but Eaglebrook finally found pay dirt on a QB bootleg as time expired. After a hard fought afternoon, The Eagles were feeling good about the progress they made, despite falling to the Green Wave 18-6.
