JV Football v. Frontier

On Saturday the JV Football team took to the field to defend their perfect record against the vaunted Redhawks from Frontier Regional Middle School. Despite a striking size disadvantage, both in terms of physical stature and pure numbers, the Eagles held their own on the field. Frontier got off to a quick start, driving the length of the field, and eventually hitting the pay dirt. Down 8-0, Eaglebrook took possession of the ball on their own 35-yard line. Due to a rash of injuries, as well as other conflicts, the boys from the Brook were missing a number of key contributors from their previous two games, and it took the team a while to settle in. After a quick three play series, Eaglebrook punted, giving Frontier possession of the ball with good field position. Despite some solid play, the Eagles eventually wore down, and the Redhawks were able to covert another drive into a touchdown. Unfortunately the offense continue to struggle, and after converting a few first downs, turned the ball over deep in Redhawk territory. Down 16-0, the Brookies feathers were ruffled, and the defense finally settled in. Frontier again was able to convert on key plays, eventually driving the ball to the Eaglebrook 9 yard line. With our backs against the wall, the boys stepped up, with Levi Constant intercepting a pass at the 9, and returning past mid field. Time expired, but the boys in Blue were starting to gain confidence.

Starting with the ball in the second half, our offense really started to feel the effects of missing starters along the line and at the specialty positions. Another drive was thwarted, and Frontier took position at their own 40-yard line. Driving deep into Eaglebrook territory, the defense rallied again, forcing a turnover on downs inside the 5-yard line. Eagebrook then fumbled a handoff on a reverse, eventually recovering in thier own endzone, giving the Redhawks a safety, the final points of the day. Eaglebrook's defense again played well, causing a turnover on their own 20-yard line. The offense finally gained some traction, completing a pass from our fullback. Unfortunately, the drive ended with an interception on the Frontier side of the field.

Despite a rough afternoon, the boys realized that they were able to hold down a very good team for most of the game, and we are looking forward to our next game against Greenfield on the 29th of October.
