- Was founded in 1922 by Howard B. Gibbs, a former Deerfield Academy faculty member.
- Is an independent, all-boys middle school for boarding and day students in grades 6, 7, 8, & 9.
- Is a world leader in junior boarding and day school education for middle school-aged boys.
- The school's second Headmaster was Thurston C. Chase.
- The third Headmaster was O. Stuart Chase '47 (currently a member of the Development Office).
- Is under the leadership of third generation Headmaster Andrew C. Chase '73.
